Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State Lodge Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) announced their endorsement of Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi in her re-election bid as Florida’s 37th Attorney General.
“This is truly an honor to have the endorsement of the more than 20,000 active and retired professional law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line each and every day to protect Floridians,” said Bondi. “As Florida’s chief legal officer, and through my Office of Statewide Prosecution, we have collaborated in targeting criminal activities and keeping citizens safe from unscrupulous offenders.”
Since taking office, Attorney General Bondi has worked tirelessly to shut down pill mills as part of the fight against prescription drug abuse, making Florida a zero tolerance state for human trafficking, aggressively investigating Medicaid fraud, and secure an unprecedented level of relief for Florida homeowners through the National Mortgage Settlement.
Florida State Lodge FOP President James W. Preston writes in the organization’s endorsement letter, “Over the last four years we have been honored as you consistently supported our law enforcement profession. Your attendance at the funerals and memorial services for our fallen heroes means a great deal to those dealing with loss. Your genuine compassion, comfort and empathy during the tragic loss of an officer in the line of duty, for the families and officers, is extremely important as you speak for the State of Florida letting them know the State is there for them. Your selfless support for injured officers, such as Taylor County Deputy Robert Lundy is greatly appreciated. The recognition from your office for the Florida Officer of the Year is also a great honor to those who receive the award.”
Preston further states, “As an 18 year career prosecutor in the 13thJudicial Circuit and a strong advocate for justice you demonstrated a commitment to the citizens of Florida that exceeds politics as usual. After four years in office, we have seen first-hand your willingness to step up and fight for what is right, dealing with the critical and complex crime issues facing our state today.” The official FOP endorsement letter follows the press release.
When Bondi took office in January 2011, Florida was home to 98 of the top 100 physicians dispensing Oxycodone nationwide. Today, none of the top 100 reside in Florida. This success has led to a decline in deaths caused by prescription drug abuse three years in a row. Another battle won in the war against prescription drug abuse has been development of the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, which helps doctors know when patients are doctor shopping to gain access to prescription drugs. The Attorney General championed the program from its inception and recently stepped in to provide $2 million in funding through settlement funds to ensure it continues protecting Floridians.
